Fake is risky: Here is how to differentiate between fake and genuine honey

Honey is not only nutritious but also has an extremely delicious taste. However, the purity of honey determines whether it is dangerous or beneficial to the body. Luckily, studies are available to help in determining the level to which honey is reliable. Hence, a consumer does not have to go through much trouble to determine if honey is fake or authentic. Research holds that honey from beekeepers is not always fake. The reason for this is that beekeepers rarely process their honey; they harvest them and sell directly to consumers.

For those who are not in a position to buy honey directly from a beekeeper, the following tests can help to distinguish between processed and unprocessed honey.

1.       The Thumb Test

This is one of the simplest method of testing whether honey is real. It involves placing a small quantity of honey on the thumb to determine whether it would eventually spill or spread around the thumb. In most cases, you will know that your honey is pure when no spillage is observed when a small amount is placed on the thumb. A real or unprocessed honey typically tends to be intact even when placed on the thumb or any other slopy surface. On the other hand, fake honey will always move around the thumb or other soft surface.

2.       The Water Test

The water test is always the most interesting and accurate method of determining whether your honey is fake or real. The first step involves pouring water in a clear glass until it the glass is full. Once the glass is filled, the next step involves measuring a tablespoon of honey. The honey is then poured into the glass and mixed steadily with a rod or any stirrer. For pure honey, no dissolution will be observed. On the other hand, an impure honey will effortlessly dissolve.

Notably, the most trustworthy source of honey is bees. Factory-produced are considered fake considering that many additives are included in the formulas used to produce them. As a consumer, you should always be aware that genuine honey ought to be not only natural in nature but also organic. Scientific studies show that pure honey ought to contain twenty-one vitamins and phytonutrients with some naturally occurring antioxidants. In addition, other constituents such as around sixteen minerals and eighteen amino acids best describe natural honey. Finally, raw honey has some healing properties.
